Crime of the Week

The Sarnia Police Service is advising the public of a local incident involving a phone scam.

On January 10, 2017, the victim received a call advising that their bank accounts were somehow compromised internally and that the bank needed the victim to assist with an investigation. The victim was asked to withdraw a quantity of money and meet the caller in a public location with the money. Once the money was physically handed over to the suspect the victim was told that the money would be placed back into their account, which it never was.

In this matter the suspect is described as being a male, white, husky build, about 5 foot 8 inches with dark hair, and aged 50 to 60 years old. .

If anyone receives such a call, please contact your local branch directly and speak to a representative who can look into this matter for you. These criminals take advantage of the most vulnerable in our society so if you are concerned about someone you know please talk to them about this.
