Counterfeit Bills

Sarnia Lambton Crime Stoppers and local Police Services are advising area merchants to be aware of counterfeit bills surfacing in and around the city. Since November 2013 about 15 reports of counterfeit bills have been received. The most common bills are the older paper Canadian $100.00; however police have also investigated incidents with Canadian $5.00 and US $20.00 bills.

Merchants are reminded to take extra time to examine bills when handling cash. The Bank of Canada website provides safety tips on how to detect counterfeit currency and also provides free training material. For more information, go to http://www.bankofcanada.ca/

And remember, if you know someone who is passing counterfeit bills, do the right thing and call Crime Stoppers.
