A1 Security Crime of the Week

Sarnia Police are currently investigating a “scam” involving a male party who has been approaching people in various local parking lots to ask for money for his ailing wife. Sounds sad but in fact it is fraudulent in nature. Reported incidents have occurred in September and October but it is believed this activity has been happening for several months. There are most likely many other incidents of this nature that have not yet been reported.

The male party has been described as tall, between 58 and 68 years old, medium build with graying short hair. He has been observed operating a silver Nissan SUV type vehicle.

Not only has he approached people in the Northgate shopping plaza on Exmouth Street, London and Murphy Road business locale and Eastland Plaza on South Indian Road , he has actually knocked on the doors of some private homes. His main request has been for gas money to get himself to London to visit his sick wife. On one occasion he actually stormed away using profanity when one complainant denied his request.

Do not fall for this scam. Do not give this man money. Do not give any money to any person who approaches you randomly with a sob story. There are other ways to get financial assistance when a family members is ill.
